Employer Sanctions Legislation

The Migration Amendment (Reform of Employer Sanctions) Act 2013 has passed through parliament, receiving Royal Assent and commences on 1 June 2013.

The new law requires businesses to take reasonable steps to ensure their employees and contractors have the right to work in Australia.

The new infringement notice system allows immigration to levy hefty penalties against businesses – regardless of fault – if a worker is engaged illegally.
